My Grandfather Jim Phelps Sr. bought the used lathe in Patterson NJ around 1917, he was 12 or 13.Grandpa made airplane engines,a V8,and steam engines.Grandpa upgraded to a newer lathe and the Climax stayed with my Dad. I started using the lathe in the early 70's at 10 or 11.The Climax came to my house about 15 years ago. I use it almost weekly as a metal lathe. Every few years we turn some wood.
