I purchased this band saw at an auction of a machine shop in South central PA in 1971. At this time the machine was in service and working. I took it into my woodworking shop and have used it continuously for 41 years. In 1976 my shop in West Virginia was hit by lightning and burned down. The saw was rescued and new babbet bearings poured and put back on the job. It looks very much like a 27" saw labeled "C frame band saw" claiming to be a Chicago Machinery Exchange saw but it looks a lot more like the 27" "Famous Band Saw" labeled as a Sidney, so I say mine is also a Sidney (especially since all the measurements are identical and the serial number is so similar). It has no company name that I can find. Though it has a big flat belt drive pulley, I always ran it with a large sized "V" belt on a 1.5 horse motor. It has been a great saw for pattern making and all scroll work but never quite accurate enough for re-sawing, so I just purchased a new saw and decommissioned this old friend. I plan to rebuild it and re-paint it and fix it up to keep.
