Comments:
I found this on CL less than 5 miles from my home. The PO, a wood worker, told me this drill press belonged to his father who was also a wood/metal worker and farmer. His father had purchaed it in the late 40's or early 50's from an old Blacksmith shop owner; he said it was very old at that time. He could not give me any of the history prior to his father taking possession of it. The PO is an elderly gentleman who years ago repaired and restored old furniture and chairs with his wife. He has three building's full of old vintage tools, furniture and many chairs hanging from the ceilings. He quit the business sometime after his wife's passing. I have been back twice and spent several hours touring through his buildings and it's like a museum in the rough.
After reviewing several articles and information on this and other sites I gave an approximate Mfg. date of 1900-1905.
Motor: Leland Electric Co., Dayton OH
Repulsion Induction
Frame: No. 35
1/3hp, 60cyc, 1725rpm, 110-220v, #3027-600
Chuck: Jacobs #3A, 1/8 - 5/8
Chuck Key: #3 Series
(update 2/16/12)
After a preliminary cleaning of the frame I found the following information molded into the frame:
No. O Drill, W.F. & J Barnes CO F809 (may be the frame #), NO. 1200, JAN 12 , Rockford IL USA.
Much of this is badly worn and I'm recording what numbers and letters appear to be. I've also changed the date of mfg because the S/N might indicate it to be closer to 1900.

Comments: This was altered by the original owner. The original motor mount was on a plate at the base of the drill press but was later permanently mounted above and behind the table.

Comments: This plate applys adjustable pressure and circular motion to the wheel devise attached to the spindle. The pressure can be adjusted through the shaft the plate is attached to and the wheel can be adjusted up or down I presume to control the drill rpm.

Comments: The only damaged part is the chipped table. The PO told me the press fell forward years ago and hit something else causing it to be damaged. The wiring to the motor and switch are badly worn and will require being replaced.
