I got the core of this combo machine in a trade from bigjoe, with the intent of restoring it for my brother-in-law, an idea that lasted almost all the way home ( he has a craftsman "80" from the fifties instead). I had been kicking around the idea of getting a portable table saw, but wasn't about to get a modern howler monkey, and with a few modifications, this neat old machine fit the bill handsomely. The saw table has a date cast into the bottom of March,1936 ( I imagine they seasoned the casting for a year or so, which makes it,properly speaking, a 1937 combo machine);I have been unable to find a catalog that lists this model.
The saw has been fitted with the optional extension and longer fence and rails, and sports a guard assembly from a 1160 10" saw. I found a suitable motor and mobility kit, and was able to make up a joiner from two units, completing the machine.
I've lugged this to a few job sites, and have been very happy with its performance. It breaks down into three sub-assemblies , making it possible to lift it in and out of a truck without too much effort. This saw has the squared shoulder miter gauge, and is fairly period correct, barring the guard.
This machine is unusual in that both machines are driven off the same side of the pulley, a characteristic not shared with any other Delta combo machine I'm aware of.
All in all, a fine example of how 1930's technology does the job just fine, even today.I'd love to find the right guard, and maybe the optional horizontal mortiser attachment,
but for now, I'll have to settle for having one of the coolest job site saws ever.
Poor me.
