This is a wooden framed shaper that is very nicely made and in good condition. The table adjust up and down on 4 wooden wedges and requires little effort to do so. Much of the iron shows signs of being hand worked with the wing nuts being a clear example. There in not any label or marks that tell of it's maker. I believe it could possibly be made by Mellor & Orum, for three reasons. First, I aquired it from the attic of a closed woodshop in the suburbs of Philadelphia. It was clearly sitting unused and taken care of for some time. Mellor & Orum was a Philadelphia machine maker. The second reason is there are some similarities in the wedged table adjustment to photos of a Mellor & Orum metal framed shaper listed on this site. Last is the shaper had on it when I aquired it, a Mellor & Orum patented cutter. There is not much info or many photo of their machines so it is hard to know the truth. This is just my guess.
It is not a showy machine but beautiful just the same.
