Comments:
After months of looking I finally located a Crescent Jointer locally. I purchased it from a gentleman that had bought it from a Cabinet Maker. The Patent date of Dec 14, 1909 on the cutter head along with the locking wheels on the table indicate that it was manufactured sometime between 1909 and 1921. A J A Fay and Egan cutter guard had been added at some point in its life. The machine was in working condition as purchased with a magnetic starter and remote power switch. I chose an AC Drive (VFD) for converting single phase 240 V to three phase 240 V as my power source. The machine as originally sold would have had a counter shaft and would have been line shaft powered. It had been converted to a machine mounted motor at some point. It has Babbitt bearings that had grease fittings and the reservoirs were full of grease. As part of the restoration, it has been changed back to oil lubrication and felt wicks have been added. Under the layers of gray paint I found black which would appear to be the original color. Note that the infeed table lock wheel is on the back of the machine. This is because of the after market guard being installed on the front.
