My first machine of 2012, this jointer has been a quest for a while. Purchased from a gentleman who had used it in his sash and door business which he had closed, I was under the impression it was taken from service recently. When I got there,it turned out he had shut down 20 years ago and had stored this in a barn with the intent of setting it up with a gas motor to use it in a sawmill he wanted to build. Never having the time, he decided to sell the jointer to clear out his barn.
The machine is substantially complete, only missing the fence hold down handles and cutterhead guard (if there ever was one). Despite the rust, all the nuts, bolts, gib screws,adjustments, etc. turn and work fine, the machine was kept lubricated it seems. The original paint can be seen inside the base, a flat greyish black. When I get to working on it, I'll save some chips to keep for a match. The serial number, 55592, is stamped into the end of the infeed table, I believe that puts it pre- 1948, more research will be needed to narrow that down. I plan to restore it as a user in my shop.
