This post drill was made by Boynton & Plummer. It is a model No. 10. It has a patent date of Feb. 4, 1873 on the frame. There is no patent listed in the patent office for Boynton or Plummer on that day. The only drill press patented on that day was a patent awarded to E. J. Worcester. Patent number 135,613. Nothing in the Worcester patent seems to apply to my post drill. Perhaps Boynton & Plummner made a different model of drill based on the 1873 Worcester patent, and then may have put that patent date on all of their drill models, including those not covered by that patent. There are also photo's of a Boynton & Plummer No. 6 in the photo index. That drill also has the Feb. 4, 1873 patent date on it. That drill is totaly different from the drill that I have, and is also different from the 1873 Worcester patent.
