Sears Craftsman General Purpose polishing head in Power-Bronze finish with foil decal.
Body: cast iron, part number 25253.
Bearings: two Oilite porous bronze with spring loaded oil cups
Shaft: 5/8" steel reduced to 1/2"-20 right and left threaded ends.
Pulley: 2.0" diameter die-cast aluminum alloy.
Flanges: 1.75" diameter plated stamped steel.
Date code or casting lot number: F23A
An odd size thin copper washer was found between each inner flange and Oilite bearing. These did not appear original and were removed.
>>HISTORY<<
February 2004: Purchased this polishing head in a Michigan used tool store.
September 2016:
Added steel spacers to move the buffing wheels toward the shaft ends.
Attached to a 1/3 hp Dunlap motor with a 3/8" V-belt and 2½" pulley.
Motor sits on a Craftsman floating (pivot) mount.
A block of wood props the motor base back edge, to keep excess belt tension off the polishing head Oilite bearings.
Bearing lubricant: SAE30 non-detergent oil.
Spiral sewn buffing wheels with Emery (left) and Tripoli (right) compounds.
The cut up ½ gallon milk cartons keep the compound splatter off the motor and surrounding area.
