Having used Craig's List for an appliance sale back in 2009, I cruised the antiques and tools one day in 2011 and spotted the vintage Delta 4" jointer located in a nearby town. Went to see it and it was perfect for my second purchase of a vintage machine tool. The owner had used it for over 20 years, having himself obtained it in Milwaukee through the public school system surplus disposal.
Little by little I have learned about Delta and other machines and this one in particular and todate I have added the correct tension spring for the cutter guard, the correct or a correct switch rod for the motor and the belt/pulley cover. It has been fun searching for, learning about and installing each piece.
Although I have been using this machine off and on, this coming winter it will see a lot of use, along with the bigger, more powerful, Walker-Turner 6" jointer.

37-290 after a little clean up and painting. New bearings in the motor after clean up and painting, and alignment of knives in a cleaned cutter head. This shot is before the spring, switch rod (correct) and belt/pulley cover were added.

Side View. I have found the correct tension spring for the cutter guard assembly and will correct the switchrod clip if I don't enjoy this configuration more. I am not a museum but a woodworker hobbyist.
