Comments:
I bought this saw long distance, and had it transported to me by a series of friends through OWWM. I've had an interest in JD Wallace machines for years, but this is my first one.
The seller reported that her father had used this saw in his shop making cabinets going back 50 years, and also said that the saw was still in use.
The saw is in good physical condition, although the arbor has some play in it so I'll need to check the bearings.
The top is a steel plate which sits on top of the cast iron frame of the saw.
Pretty much everything is original including the table (which was being used as an extension wing as set up by the prior owner), the "Rip Fence", the "Cross Cut Fence" (miter gauge), and the integrated 1/2 HP GE built single phase motor.
Note the "crosscut fence" (miter gauge), which is formed of a bracket that reaches over to the edge of the table and wraps underneath, and then rides front to back on a round bar that is mounted under the table. An interesting design.
The motor is integrated into the saw. The motor turns at 1800 RPM, and via the gears spins the arbor at 5200 RPM. Notice that the serial number on the motor tag matches the serial number on the machine tag. These were matched up during manufacture.
Even though the saw only has capacity for a 7-1/4" blade, it sports a 2" max depth of cut.
With all the cast iron, this saw weighs in at approximately 135 pounds (including the motor).
I'm looking forward to getting this saw back in service!
