This motor came mounted on an old Canadian-made Superior scroll saw I bought at a yard sale. I didn't really want or need the saw, but the owner had inherited from his father, had no use for it, and didn't want to be left with it at the end of the day. Once I showed a little interest in it, he offered a price I couldn't refuse. Thanks to this website, the saw has since found a new home in northern Ontario but the motor remained with me because the cost to ship it was uneconomical.
The history of the American parent company is surprising, and includes involvement with Marconi, Charles Kettering and Carl Norden and the Norden bombsight (http://www.answers.com/topic/robbins-myers-inc).
The Canadian division does not boast quite such and exciting history (http://brantford.library.on.ca/localhistory/robbins.php)
