It started off looking for a 260D, had one on the hook and she got away....so I thought I would do some searching and found this Oliver 88D in an add listing from PA....
So I E-mailed the owner and
started corresponding with him of his 1929 Oliver 88D Concentric wheels adjustment with the sliding table. We came to a deal with the price and set the date for the fallowing week (Saturday,September 17th.2011)
It was a 141.5 mile trip (2-1/2 hrs) We left at 9:30am and arrived at his place at 12:05pm.When I got out of the truck he had her already to test her out and ready to go. When I look her over I was impressed with the excellent condition of the table and the functions considering it was from 1929. She's going to get "the bath" (full restoration, as soon as I finish the 1927 American 16"buzz jointer and the 1934 117A band saw.
Just glad to get her home, Dave was a decent guy, had a 24" Porter jointer, 36" American WWM bandsaw and a 36" Tannawitz , also bunch of other machinery. He hated to let her go and I could tell but he is trying to get some funds together for a patent device... what it is... he couldn't say. So he had the Oliver 88 and is also selling some other machinery for his venture toward a patent. I promised to stay in touch with him and also send him some updates of the 88 restoration when ever I get to her.
She's a beauty and a beast, she weighs in at a little over a ton,(2150),5HP/3ph/220v drive, type E fence, quadrant miter, sliding table with the scale, main scale as well for the E type fence. Everything operates very smooth on her. I will have a lot more pics to upload to the original post I posted here on OWWM- http://www.owwm.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=102332.
