An eBay purchase, from New Jersey. Seller acquired this machine in an estate sale cleanup, and was able, at my request, to get some history from the family for me:
"This machine was originally purchased by Mr. Andrew J. Costa, then between 18 and 21 years old, as the second machine in his first shop (the first was a drill press he purchased at age 13, in 1929, and paid off at a rate of $1 per week - still owned by his son Drew, who provided this information) at the family home in Carlstadt, New Jersey, where he did car repairs and welding to help his family during the depression. Then, in the 30’s he established the Chester Tool Company, in an eight-bay garage building located behind his family’s home at 409 Warren Street, Harrison, New Jersey, where he operated a prototype-building machine shop until his passing in the late 1980’s. The shop then sat untouched until after the passing of Mrs. Costa last year. It has now been liquidated and the property sold."
From all I can gather, this is a very early (and thus non-badged) Sears Companion machine.
I'll post more pictures here when restoration is complete.
