This is a tool for grinding single-point cutters such as those used on engraving tools. It was bought at an auction by a machinist I know. He eventually decided he had no use for it, and was planning to put it in his scrap metal heap when I happened to be visiting and inquired about it. I thought it far too lovely to scrap, so I carted it home (it's small, but very heavy!) but in the end I had no use for it either. So, I ultimately traded it to someone for some engine heads for my Norton motorcycle. The tool is now in the hands of someone who is actually using it.
