I just bought this monster - weighs like one too - from a rancher who had it in his barn for years. I have not cleaned it up yet other than tried to loosen the screw on a side compartment just below the table. When oil started pouring out of it, I stopped and tightened the screws back on. Apparently it is the oil (bath) reservoir for lubricating the up-and-down stroke of the saw! Duh! Well, it works, but quite loud. Also someone had welded a pc of steel around the original table, but did a poor job of welding, so the table is not quite smooth or level.
I have looked on this site and found two others closest in appearance to mine. Well, did I just buy an old worthless clunker not worth restoring or could this be one of those Antique Road Show rare finds?
If it turns out to be worth restoring, I would need to sand blast it to remove probably several coats of old paint, take the whole thing apart, clean it and put a fresh coat of paint on it. Then it would look pretty nice. What do you think? Any input would be appreciated.
