Purchased from an individual downsizing his shop. Was a school surplus unit and was owned by another individual in between PO and school. I found on CL. Machine is equipped with a 7 1/2 hp Baldor 3 phase motor and a Steelman Electric H-A-S static phase converter. I fitted oak skids and heavy duty steel casters to be able to maneuver around my shop. No blade grinder was offered with planer. Before and after photos are shown below. After a lot of work, this is an incredible addition to my shop. The number of parts, pieces, bearings, etc. was almost overwhelming.
The dust hood was adapted from a unit that came with the machine of unknown origin. The galvanized adapter will be upsized later.
One journal bearing (metal on metal) on the infeed roller hadn't been lubricated had destroyed itself and the roller journal at that end. Was able to find a replacement from an OWWM member.
Due to the S/N of this machine, I think it is production model #5 of the PM160 planer after some noteworthy design change . The owner's manual states effectivity as "0-9925 and up".
I replaced all the knobs with black knobs and painted some black accents. The paint is Pittsburgh Vista Green. It was 100% hand painted over a coat of red oxide primer.
The cost of bearings alone was daunting after much shopping for deals. All but the brass journal bearings and needle bearings in table rollers were replaced.
