As a former wood shop teacher I really dislike seeing wood shops closed and their assets liquidated, and it is this reason that I had mixed feelings when I acquired this machine. I won’t bore any one with the details of how much I paid…. But let’s just say my wife advised that if I really wanted the machine I should place a reasonable bid, my answer was … it isn’t a deal unless it’s a steal. It was for that reason that I was quite surprised when I received the call that I Was the highest bidder (by 4 cents I was told). Long story short, it appears to be a great old machine built in early 1944, as indicated by the serial number and supported by the opening date of the school that I removed it from.
The pictures provided here are of the machine pretty much as bought (sight unseen) with the headstock disassembled before the new bearings were installed. The motor is a three phase and will have to (reluctantly) be replaced with a single phase. Take note of the “extras” that were included in the sale in photo #4. I will post pictures when the rebuild is complete. Don’t expect to see any new paint… a detail that I never seem to get to.
