Took a trip south from Santa Barbara to Pasadena 6/23/11, stopped along the way to pick up a Walker-turner 12”bs(Ventura), a sweet little 12” Dara-James dp(Pacoima) and a c’man 10” bandsaw(Pasadena), all from CL and $40 or less each.
Saw this little gem on CL, listed as Sears 10” bandsaw, bad picture made it look like it was a total rustbucket. It had been listed for a few days before I spotted it, don’t know if anyone had looked at it before me, but I bet no owwmers. Cool history, purchased new by the Pasadena Playhouse(a well known socal theater for plays, musicals, etc.) as part of their woodshop for set building. I got it from the son of the second owner, who told me his dad bought it 35-40yrs ago when the theater auctioned off some of their equipment.
I’m pretty sure it’s all original, including the stand. The stand looks like a delta with similar lines, but the holes in it are drilled, not punched like the delta/rockwells, and it has a “Companion Power tools” decal on it. The wheels have some ancient layers of masking tape on them, but it still tracks true! The main body casting is really nice, pinned hinge ci door which is well fit when closed, and no cracks or chips. Only a couple of these in the pic index, maybe not many produced/sold. 1/3hp Companion motor. Ain’t no powerhouse of a band saw, but what it lacks in power it makes up for with style!
