Ekstrom Carlson 111 B Edge Sander. Serial # 65-64, 1965 vintage. 6-11-2011.
Hey all,
We just got this one home yesterday from Indiana where it has been held for me for about 2 years. It is complete and in nice condition, including the original speckeled paint, which I think is pretty cool and we are going to leave it original. We gave it good cleaning and my daughter wanted to paint the badge so I let her have at it. The sander runs very smooth and these are sturdy little machines. We now have 2 1/2 of these and this is by far the best condition of the batch.
There are 2 sizes of these; one has the motor inside the casting and the 111 B has the motor outside the base casting which makes for a longer belt. This is the bigger one and it has the factory base and end table still intact. The factory base is not cast , like I used to think, but a steel weldment like the base of the EC ripsaws. It also came with a shop made end stop, but it is nicely done, so I'm glad to have it.
The EC serial numbers are hard to figure out, but there seem to be at least 3 series of numbers. This one appears to be what I call the second series of numbers, where the first numerals are the year. I am fairly sure that this one would be a 1965 machine based on that, but if anyone has cracked the code, please let me know.
Thanks,
Chuck
