Picked up from another OWWMer who responded to my WANTED ad. Although picked up in California, previous owner purchased it in Charlotte, North Carolina. A cast iron pedestal is included. Combined weight is approx. 700 lb. Height with pedestal is 35".
I need some help with the date-of-birth. My belief is that this model was made before 1928. At some point, the American Saw Mill Machinery Co. branded their woodworking equipment "Monarch," possibly to differentiate them from the saw mill equipment. The main difference between this machine and the Monarch unit is the cast-in name, and the motor. This has a 1 HP motor, while the 1928 Monarch came with a 1 1/2 HP motor.
Reviewing mothership publications shows that the 1923 catalog depicts a bench jointer of different design. The 1928 catalog (section 4) show a machine quite similar in appearance to this machine, but with the name "Monarch" cast-in. All castings on this machine are numbered, and begin with X13, the model designation of the 1928 Monarch machine.
Anyone who has a catalog, or other documentation available (for scan sharing or purchase) let me know.
Will post "after" pics. when done.
