Comments:
The Barnes #3 lathe is perhaps the most decorated of all foot powered machinery with the pinstriping and painted designs on the wooden bed. Barnes began making the #3 about 1876 and made over 5500 until it was discontinued in the mid 1920's. Like most Barnes machinery, it evolved in the early years from a much lighter weight design using a round belt to the style shown in these pictures. Age, neglect and yes hard usage takes a toll on anything so most are in need of some TLC when found. What is pictured here is a fully restored #3. The colors and designs are based on paint runs and other examples. For additional informaiton on foot powered machinery, please visit www.footpoweredmachinery.com
