This planer was listed for sale by its owner, Denton Myland, who gave use permission to use his pictures. What follows are from Denton's ad.
"This 24-inch planer was used for tongue and groove flooring, and has a 4-inch thickness capacity. There are two sets of side cutters, one for tongue and groove the other for flat sides on boards. The pictures were taken quite awhile ago so the pictures do not represent the present state of finish It has been in a drive shed out of direct weather exposure an the shafts and bearings greased before storage. The machine was working when I got it, I have reworked it and needs little to finish it to working order. I was told that it was one of the first machines produced by Cowan and Co of Galt Ontario in 1867. [Cowan & Co. didn't exist until 1879.] The machine was running with a 5hp electric motor which I do not have. There are extra knives for the cutter head. ... The fellow who was using before me had it in Brougham and said he had done a lot of floors in the Pickering area with it."
