Comments:
Bought this from good old Battles Hardware in Whittier for $75. Pretty beat up from years in the owner's Father's machine shop. Cleaned all the grease and metal shavings off and repainted. Spent months trying to replace the spindle shaft bearings, which ended with the machine shop tech at school deciding it was better to hammer on the end of the shaft than to use the huge press they have. He bent the damn shaft, AHHH!!! I used it with a slightly bent shaft for a little while just because I needed the drill. Finally, I found a bench top Delta press in parts and, on a whim, tried the spindle assembly... it fit perfectly even though the shaft is much shorter than the B.C. Works great!!!

Edit - this entry was edited on 6/2/2011 to update some of the machine specs. The original entry was dated 3/20/2011. DG

*The Model 1600 (bench version) and 1610 (floor standing version) were introduced in 1936, and were replaced sometime after 1939 by the 1650 series which had a redesigned spindle assembly. The later version had a different type of front pulley guard and has the newer round BC logo cast into the head.

Comments: Front, looks like the table was replaced with a production table at some point.

Comments: Cast belt guard, Almost looks like it was cut off on the top? The 4 pronged handle was obviously added after.
