This is a nicely designed and machined cast iron saw fence marked “ADJUSTABLE SAW TABLE CO MFR’S. FITCHBURG MASS FARWEL’S PATENT-PATENTED MARCH 6 1888”. The cast section measures about 31 inches long and is quite heavy and precisely engineered. It appears that this was an after market fence which could probably be retrofitted to both cast iron and wood framed/topped machines. A machined cast iron or rolled steel strap about a half inch wide would have been mounted to the saw table’s front edge and the fence fasted to it with the hand wheel.

Attractive and well made with writing and patent info cast all over it. Just what I like to find! Company history will be posted soon.
