This drill press started life as one of three heads on a gang head production model. I converted it to a floor model. Sold one of the heads to a fellow OWWM'er, sold the table to another fellow OWWM'er, bought a parts machine along the way and finally bought a 1992 floor model who's table and base are on this one now.
The head is mostly original. It is a 5 speed model, 240-1500 rpm, Leeson 1 1/2 hp 3 phase 1745 rpm motor. I replaced some parts with new from Powermatic and some from a 1964 PM1200. I replaced all hardware and round stock parts with stainless steel. The column is a 1980 original, even though this was a gang head production model, it had floor model columns. It was quite imposing the first time I saw it. It was almost 9 feet tall! I used the table and base from a very nice 1992 PM1200 V/S model, I prefer the 5 speed over the V/S.
All in all it turned out great and this will be something I keep forever and pass down to my children. It is very smooth, quiet and powerful. A awesome drill press to be for sure.
