Comments:
Unlike most other examples of Palmgren Rotary Tables, the rotation stage on this one is not geared-hand-crank driven (hence purchased used it was much less expensive -- about half the cost -- compared to the 8-inch Palmgren gear-driven rotary tables that sell used for $300 and up). Instead, the circular top rotation stage must be unlocked, rotated by hand (with reference to the large outer scale, graduated in degrees 0 - 90 - 0 - 90), then locked back in position. The X and Y translation stages are hand-crank driven, and graduated in 0.001" increments. I use it with my drill press to layout bolt patterns, either on an XY grid, or else at uniform intervals on a bolt circle (e.g., 3 bolts at 120-deg, 4 bolts at 90-deg, 5 bolts at 72-deg, 6 bolts at 60-deg, etc., for which the graduated scale is entirely adequate). My refurbishment consisted of disassembly, immersion of each piece in rust removal fluid, cleaning/degreasing, fresh lubrication, reassembly, and fine-adjustment of the translation stage gibs. Disassembly was straightforward and quick, so that won't be an obstacle if/when I do decide to give it a fresh coat of paint. Update 2/7/2011: Customer Service at Palmgren identified this as a model #82 rotary table, made sometime before 1969 (when their currently-most-senior employee joined the company ... this model was made before his time).
