Comments:
This jointer was first purchased by my grandfather and is still in the family. From what I could learn, the Continental Machinery Company first started in Montreal in 1947, and is still open today. But in 1953 it sold off its production plant to Poitras which in turn was bought by General in the 80's.

In 1997 this jointer was sand-blasted, repainted, rewired and given a set of HSS knives.

This is a nice compact machine that is very sturdily built. It has a 3 knife cutter head mounted in ball-bearings and runs very smoothly. Although it is a 6" jointer, it has a very short bed of 34" on two adjustable tables. But these short tables, along with a very beefy construction is possibly what helped the tables remain .0015" in alignment. This jointer gives glass smooth surfaces and is a joy to work with.

The wooden timber frame style base was also built in the late 40's by my grandfather. Since it had passed the last few years in a barn, humidity got the best of the original fish glue he made and used. So I took it apart and re-glued it with waterproof glue and gave it a coat of poly, so it should be rock solid for another 50 years. I also added a dust chute and wheels off the back legs to move it around.
