This 6" jointer was made and marketed by Backus Machine Company Power Tools of Boyd, Wisconsin. It is listed as having a 47" bed and SKF ball bearings.
Backus appears to be one of the manufacturers of woodworking machines which sprung up after WWII. Backus advertised in the small print ads in the back of Popular Science from late 1947 through 1949. I have not found any reference to Backus after that period. Backus also made a 12" band saw, an 8" tilt top bench mount table saw, and a small spindle shaper.
The jointer was offered for sale via Craigslist in one of the Wisconsin venues, and the photographs were provided by the seller.
