This Model 34-600 was bought through an ad on a local internet sales site. It is an uncommon machine produced in 1968 not long after Rockwell had started a manufacturing plant here in South Africa, in Port Elizabeth. The saw part was totally imported from the USA possibly with the stand and legs. The jointer and riser though were South African made but all small parts handles, angle plates etc imported from the USA. Note the two tags I have posted. The mitre gauge as well is an unusual one and appears to have been made locally to Rockwell specs. There are no patent numbers and no reference to South African manufacture. It is not known if the side handle was originally fitted but it is a Rockwell hand wheel as used on the tailstock of the smaller Rockwell lathes.
The legs on this combo had been cut down by the PO so as to be able to roll the machine under his workbench. I refurbished the machine completely and had every intention of keeping it although I already owned a Model 1164 combo. However a woodworker friend came round, saw the combo and made me an offer I could not refuse. With space limited, whether keeping it was warranted, decided I should take the excellent offer and it was sold. In excellent condition all round, the new owner made a good buy.
