I found this saw during a "just browsing" visit to a local auction house. It looked rough to say the least, but most of the important parts were accounted for. My original intention was to refurbish it as my user saw, but my trajectory changed as clean-up went along. I owe many thanks to the good folks at www.owwm.org for their advice, restoration tips, locating parts, encouragement and inspiration. As part of the restoration I wrote a brief note regarding the history of the saw. I included the serial number, the year it was manufactured (1944), where it was found, what was done to restore it, which parts were replaced and where those parts were found, what parts were not replaced, and a description of what constitutes "War Finish" and where examples of that finish can be found on the saw. The note is tucked into the switchbox behind the wiring and, ideally, someone who is interested enough to repair the machine will be the one to find the note, and just might be encouraged to view the saw as the veteran it is. But, until that day comes, this saw will be my user saw (if I can stand to see it dirty).
