In response to CL ad for a scroll saw this is what I found. It appears to be from the W-line of machines that Yates American produced in the 1936 – 1937 years. There is not another posting of this type of scroll saw so I can be certain of the information on it. I discovered a picture of a restored unit on the web and emailed the guy that had it posted to some other site, but he posted years ago and has not yet responded. His had the original tag but his pictures where very poor and blurry.

The young man I bought this from had received it in payment for cleaning out an old ladies barn and she told him to take whatever he wanted. He said he had to do an internet search to even find out that this was called a scroll saw. All he knew was that it was old, heavy and shook a lot. He demonstrated and I agreed, but paid him and took the saw home. Once in the garage I checked it over and noticed an adjustable head cam item (not sure what to call it or how to describe) so I adjusted it a bit and turned it back on, she purred like an old fat cat getting a rub down. Very little vibration and I’m sure once I finish the restore it will be even better.

The motor has a cracked mounting pad and appears too been leaking oil. The usual rust, but overall not in bad shape for its age.
