I got a tip over the summer from another OWWM'er about this machine being available in the Cincinnati area. He passed on it because only because there was no more room in the minivan after the Powermatic 90 lathe was load. Called the gentleman up and he gave me directions to his location. It was a good 1 1/2 hours from home but only an hour from work. Drove down after work following his directions and found the road he lived on but not his address. Drove back and forth several times looking at mailbox addresses before deciding that the dirt road with the mobile home up on the hill was the place. Drove up the dirt road and he came right out. Led me out to his shack/outbuilding to look at it.

I had been forewarned that there would be no negotiation on the price of $350. Looked it over and checked the serial number against the list. Determined that it was built in 1943 and seemed mostly original with the fiber/oil board tag intact. It has a 3/4hp Delta Manufacturing motor with the orange tag but was missing the 132 switch and star knob for the top cover. It also has newer side cover, platen, and top cover replacements. Pointed all of these things out and tried to get a reduction in price anyway (why not try?). No deal, take it or leave it. I took it and haven't regreted it. It's been used but not abused, mechanically it's been sound and tracks good.

A sideline to the story - It has a repair tag on the motor showing that the sander was once owned by Osborne Coinage Co. of Cincinnati, OH. Looked them up on the internet and found they are America's Oldest Private Mint- est 1835. It could explain the cast iron base being original during the shortages of WWII if they are the original owner. Money was no object!

I'm on the lookout for age appropriate pieces to make it complete. So far I've gotten the side cover with a Delta Milwaukee tag and a 132 box. Still need the dust cap (without the delta triangles), chrome star knob, switch & cover.
