I bought this machine in Princeton, New Jersey in August of 2010. At first, I thought this machine was a W.F. John Barns mortiser but, after further inspection I found out it was in fact a H. B. Smith. I bought it for $60.00. While I was at the barn sale I also saw a substantial H.B. Smith Lathe. I made an offer on the lathe then promptly went on vacation. When I returned the lathe had been sold. I lamented the fact that I missed out on the lathe, however a few days later I realized that the lathe had been purchased by a fellow OWWM member which made me happy. Nice work Dave. This is my first post and first Old Wood working Machine and I couldn't be happier. If anyone has any info on the machine or tips on restoring it, I would be grateful. Thanks

Most of the parts move freely. Notice the foot pedal is made of wood. Missing one hold down and the wooden spring. If any on has experience in making wooden springs, I would love the help.

It is painted beautifully, blue with red edges and gold lettering. Most of the paint is in pretty bad shape however, I'm hesitant to repaint because I don't want to loose this.
