Comments:
These Atlas badged bench saws are far less common than the Craftsman version. The period during which the Craftsman versions were sold runs from 1937 to sometime in the early 1940s. The Atlas versions have cast iron dust doors with an integrated on/off switch, and an Atlas badged Kingston-Conley motor, but are otherwise very similar. This saw has the later style base with the Art Deco stripes. Notable also is the fact that this fence is a later (symmetrical) style featuring a fence body of solid steel.
This saw was advertised only a few blocks from my house. When I discovered that the elevation gears were trashed, something that is all too common on these saws, I offered 1/4 of the asking price. Since the saw had been sitting on Craigslist for a while and clearly wasn't going anywhere the seller agreed to my offer.
