Comments:
Purchased at auction from local farmer in Schwenksville, PA for $75. When I reassembled it at home it started up but would not turn off. My guess is the previous owner pulled the plug to turn it off since the cord was quite worn near the end. I examined the circa 1954 Arrow Hart Magnetic Motor Starter and I found the shaft inside solenoid was sluggish. After cleaning and lubricating the contactor shaft, the lathe started up and ran smooth and powerful. Most importantly, it also turned off consistently. It appeared to be originally wired for 3 phase motor but was rewired for a replacement single phase 1/2 HP Jack & Heintz Precision Industries motor. The previous owner was a woodworking farmer and was selling many large vintage machines which were 3 phase 220 volt. This lathe has provided me with 20 years of woodturning enjoyment without any problems. I did pack the headstock bearings once although it has always run smooth and quiet. The original paint was metallic green and was in rough condition so I repainted it metallic silver.
