A friend found this for me at a used machinery dealer in Long Beach. I went down to look at it and thought it was in pretty good shape overall, just needed a paint job. So I took it apart, stripped it down and painted it. It really didn't need anything except some stock hold downs and I had to buy some chisels and bits.
Since it has an open motor and the bushing hole for the chisel is 7/8 with a 5/8 bushing instead of a 1&1/8 chisel hole and a closed motor it must be earlier than the model shown in the brochure. There's no model number and all the info on the machine is on the name plate on the motor, which is a 1hp 3600 rpm 3ph GE.
It's a different design than most mortisers in that the head and the table assy. slide up and down on 2 steel rods. I tried to remove the rods, but learned that they were leaded in place at three places on each rod. It's a fairly small machine and weighs in at about 350 lbs. It's a real nice little unit. but i just picked up an Oliver 91D basket case that I will replace the Wallace with if I can get It back together.
