I bought this machine a couple months ago from a fellow member here in unrestored condition. I was rather pleased with the completeness of the machine but several things had been moved and put back on incorrectly. It received the whole deal during the restoration except new babbitt. It was stripped completely and primed prior to painting. The color I chose is a dark gray, matched by mixing black into a can of gray until it matched the back of the upper guide knob. I found enough of this dark gray in hard to reach places that I have to assume it was originally this color. I chose gloss black as the second color because I liked the 2 colors together. The new blade guards are made from some sort of steel structure material. I tried a few different bent metals but wasn't satisfied until I found these neglected pieces of steel and I liked how the holes in them added to the openness of the rest of the machine. I had a bit of a time deciding how to mount the rear guard but settled for carriage bolts and stainless brackets. I purchased new tires and used my shopsmith 10ER to crown them. I will build a belt guard eventually but that has to wait until I find the "right" motor, it is currently being run with a 3/4 hp delta, which is about half the size of what this needs but it works for now. I am going to use the current drive pulley which is 19", not original but it is heavy and very sufficient to the task. The guides had been changed from the original to Carter guides and they function very well. I am quite pleased with the results and look forward to many years of use.
