Friend of mine led me to a Fastrack auction that was 10 miles from my home. Babin Builders in Bedford OH was downsizing and auctioned off some of their unused equipment. I'd been searching for a good 12" jointer for about 2 years but either money was wrong, too far away, or too much work to do to get it up and running.
I started with a Wallace 6 inch jointer, sold that then bought a Delta 6 inch professional (new one) off Craigslist for 150. I used that for a while then picked up a nice 6 inch longbed Heston and Anderson. I replaced the bearings in the cutterhead in that one and it runs smooth as glass. I sold the Delta Professional for 150 after using it for about a year and a half.
This auction comes up so I bid 85.00. I had it won until the last 15 minutes. It went up to 185. I figured what the heck, I'd bid 255 for it. 15 minutes later I won. Buyers premium and tax came to 317.00. It is in plug and play condition - all original, 3hp 3ph woods motor, direct drive ball bearing three knife cutterhead - exactly what I was looking for. Bed length total is 87 inches. I won't be buying another jointer now. I'll use the H & A for small stuff and well, everything else on this one. I don't plan on doing anything to this other than sharpening the blades.
