My band-saw was manufactured by the "Silver Mfg Company" in Salem, Ohio, around 1900-1920. Due to the missing brass plate from the machine, I'm unable to locate the Date and Serial Number.

In November, 2009, I purchased this antique band-saw for $100.00 from Craig's List. I was delighted to locate such a nice old band-saw in Gas City, IN., which is only 60 miles south of my home.

Most of my life, I have been a Tool Maker but now retired. In order to keep active, I felt a need for a band-saw that would enable me to cut "wood and steel". To cut steel, I had to slow the blade down to approximately 200 feet per minute. I added a extra shaft with a 10" wheel off the motor with a 1-1/2" pulley. Then I added a 1-1/2" pulley off the extra shaft to the 12" wheel to the shaft with the lower 20" blade wheel. In doing so, this gave me 200 feet per minute.

When I need to cut wood, I change the belts and go from the motor 1-1/2" pulley to the 12" wheel shaft to 20" lower blade wheel. This gives me 2,600 feet per minute. I find this band-saw to be a wonderful old machine. As the old saying goes, "They sure don't make them like they use too"!!!!
