This machine was given to me when I went to purchase a 12" Crescent jointer. It needed quite a bit of work to bring it back to life. Stripped all parts to bare metal and repainted. Found a vintage 1hp 220v Westinghouse motor on CL. The Arrow Hart switch was left over from a previous restoration. I made the upper blade guides from CoolBlock material. The lower guides are made from hard maple. The mobile base uses heavy duty casters from Grizzly. The blade guards are modelled after pictures I found in George Ellis' book Modern Practical Joinery. The upper guard moves up and down with the guide. One half of the table trunnion was missing and was repaired by pouring a new babbit one. I repaired the slot in the table for the blade by doing the same thing. The tires on the wheels did not require replacing as they were in very good shape. They are the flat type and not the crowned ones. The upper blade guide counter balance is an old window sash weight. I will be building a fence assembly based on the one pictured in FWW issue #210. The machine is relatively quiet when running.
Thanks to those who helped me figure out how to reassemble the blade tensioning assembly.
