Comments:
This 30" band saw is another refugee from the Milwaukee street railway and transit company Cold Spring Shops. It was acquired by the Illinois Railway Museum about 1972 and was in storage many years. Now restored and operational, the paint scheme reflects that of its original owner. The machine is driven by a very OLD 1 3/4 HP 3 phase 220 volt 4 speed induction motor through a 4 inch wide leather belt. Note the wall mounted 'coffee mill' style drum controller for speed selection. This controller seemingly once operated one of the many drawbridges in downtown Milwaukee and was adapted and re-used by the streetcar company to control speeds on this bandsaw.

The C arm casting shows "C E WRIGHT KENNILWORTH N J" and there is a small brass badge for the "E. L. Essley Machinery Co., Chicago Ill" indicating the dealer originally selling the unit.
