I purchased this nice little drill press in Hartland, MI. Seller said it belong to his Dad. It was advertised as motor runs but needs help. The price was not bad so I decided to go check it out. After a good visual inspection I asked the owner if he could power it up. He obliged, flipped the switch and the motor just hummed. He then gave the shaft a twist with his hand and the motor began to turn but was definitely lacking power. I could also see that one of the brushes was arching quite a bit. My thought was, hey the worst case, I could always put a different motor on it so I made the owner a counter offer and he accepted. Once unloaded at home I made a visual inspection of the motor brush that was arching. I found it was binding in the holder and not sitting flush against the armature. After a bit of coaxing with a small screw driver the brush was seated properly. I then plugged it in and turned on the switch. Walla! It fired right up and ran strong with no visible arching. My motor problem was solved. Life is good …..
