This drill has a property tag indicating it was once in the Miscellaneous Dept. of Niles-Bement-Pond, a manufacturer of heavy machinery. In a 1913 Iron Age ad, the Misc. Dept. of Niles-Bement-Pond offers for sale among various pieces of used machinery, a 14" Type A Barr Sensitive Drill. A 1904 used equipment sale ad in Modern Machinery mentions a No.1 Style B 14" Barr Sensitive Drill.
This drill hase a spring quill return, rather than the sash weight counterbalance, although the pulleys are present for sash weight chain.
The quill has a #1 Morse taper.
This drill came from the estate of a local man, and no infiormation on it's provenance is available.
