I wasn't really looking for this particular sander. Saw an interesting Clist posting, gave a call and thought it would be worthwhile to take a look. The sander originally came from a nearby school district wood shop. I am the third owner. I haven't dug into it yet.
The previous owner used it for a number of years and claims that it is in good working order except the spindle doesn't go up or down - "just a loose set screw." It runs buts seems noisy. Stuck my fingers down into the goo, feels like the gears aren't missing any teeth. It came with a manual (that the PO had downloaded from guess where), six spindles, some sanding sleeves and related rubbers. Missing the original Boice Crane nameplate and serial number tag. Single phase Baldor 1/2 hp 1725 rpm motor. Still uncertain about model and age.
Update: Now completed...well, almost!
Upon disassembly, found that the crankpin was separated from the crankshaft, consequently the Crankshaft was bent and the wormwheel was really chewed. My local machine shop made a new one, pressed off/on spindle bearings, removed the old waterpump bearing and finally pressed in the new one. Motor got new bearings and painted along with stripping everything else. Repainted with Rustoleum Hammered Silver. Handwheel and faceplate hand painted with Rustoleum Painters Touch red and black. Everything clearcoated.
