Picked this lil' guy up last month for $25 bucks of craigslist, with the only ID is the Champion No. 48E on the casting, has a 1/4 HP. Cleaned up nice but I've not been able to find another No.48 or when it was made... for the size it's deceptivly HEAVY.
.... update 2-15-2010 (thanks Jerry)

Hi, Saw your new drill picture and ?? about year. I have several catalogs
from Champion Blower & Forge Co. Catalog No. 55 from 1929 did not show this drill. Catalog No. 56 does not have a year but it is in this one. The price list from 9/1/33 shows it sold for $43.00. Cat. No. 62 with price list from 2/15/40 shows $36.00 (price went down ??) Cat.No. 67 with price list from 7/20/46 shows $43.20. Catalog No 75 with a price list from 11/20/50 shows $82.50 but there is also a discount sheet for the same date showing 25% off net price. Catalog No. 80 with a price list from 9/1/53 shows 82.50. Catalog No. 82 does not show this drill. So it looks like it sold for about 20 years. I don't know if there were any changes during that time. I have these catalogs because I collect Champion post drills. It should help you a little to have this info. Jerry
