Comments:
I purchased this disc sander in April 2008 from Samsonite in Denver, when they closed down the last of the Denver facility. It has a Reuland Electric 1 hp 3 ph motor. The base has "Apex" cast into the front, and "Rankin Bros, Lynwood Calif" cast into the back.
I recently found that Reuland is still in business, so I contacted them to see if I could date the motor using the serial number. They were able to pull the original builders card for the motor, and said that it shipped from their factory on Oct 16, 1962. The sander has an inventory control tag dated 1964, so I'm guestimating that the sander was made in 1963.
It will need new motor bearings in the near future, but otherwise it runs very nicely.
[Admin note, Jan 2013: changed manufacturer. Original date was January 2011.]
