Comments:
I found this at an estate auction in the summer of '09. It belonged to a pattern maker in York PA. The stand and motor are not original. The Square D 2510 W-5 may or may not be original to the machine. It ran when I plugged it in and only needed a new jib screw and re-wiring to make it near-perfect. It could use a blade and belt guard but, for $85.00 I'm not complaining!
Pilot602 offered the following research after locating a similar jointer in near-original condition: "Best i can figure is its born-on-date somewhere around the late 20s to early 30s. Looking through the catalogs on the .com side has narrowed it down to what I believe is a 1929 to 1933 age bracket. Prior to 1929, catalogs 110 and 114, only list a two knife cutterhead. In 1929, catalog 130, for the first time lists a three knife cutterhead. Catalog 140 (with an estimated publish date of around 1933?) the 502 seems to have been beefed up a bit with "heavily ribbed" tables and fences as well as dovetailed ways and an overall table length of 60" where as prior to this catalog the ways were not dovetailed and the table length was 55-inches."
