Image Description:
The engine shown in this engraving is one of the most recent type constructed by this firm, and is adapted, not only for driving agricultural machinery, but also for all purposes where steam power is required in a portable form.

The engine is very simple in design, all the parts being constructed of sufficient strength to stand the strains incurred in working, and yet are not ungainly in appearance nor of excessive weight. The working parts are as few as possible, and are all marked, so that a laborer of ordinary intelligence can take them to pieces and re-arrange them without difficulty.

The fire box gives a large heating surface, and a further economy in the amount of fuel used is secured by the cylinders being surrounded with steam jackets, the feed water being heated and the steam worked expansively. The boiler is made of extra strength, and provided in addition to the ordinary fittings with extra safety valve, under lock and key, and fusible fire plug in the fire box, which melting when the water in the boiler is too low for safety instantly extinguishes the fire. The engine is mounted on four strong wheels of large diameter; and as all the parts are well clear of the ground it can travel over very rough roads.

Prices.—Single cylinders: 4 horse-power £150; 8 horse-power £210; 12 horse-power £28. Double-cylinders: 8 horse-power £235; 16 horse-power £375; 20 horse-power £450; 30 horse-power £640.
