Image Description:
The Jenney Electric Manufacturing Company—Mr. C. D. Jenney, president of the Jenney Electric Manufacturing Company, is one of the pioneers in the manufacture of electric dynamos and motors, having a successful experience in this field extending over a period of more than twenty years. Throughout this whole period the machines which he has designed have been recognized as superior apparatus in every respect. The Jenney Electric Manufacturing Company is now manufacturing a line of direct-current multipolar machines that embody all the best modern ideas of dynamo construction both in design and material, and that contain besides many superior and distinguishing features that are the results of Mr. Jenney's long experience and study in this field. This line of machines is divided into two general types: The Multipolar dynamos, for electric lighting and power transmission, are designed to be either directly connected to the engine or driven by belt and are built in sizes from one kilowatt to 250 kilowatts. The Universal motors are built in sizes ranging from one-third horse-power to seventy-five horse-power, and are designed especially to meet the requirements of modern manufacturing and industrial establishments. This motor is so designed that it may be made dust and moisture proof; can be mounted directly upon the driven machine or attached to floor, wall or ceiling, and may be provided with reducing gears to obtain any desired ratio of speed reduction. This type of motor has been named "Universal" because of its universal adaptability. This company was one of the first to adapt the electric motor to the requirements of modern newspaper and printing establishments. Their first motor and controller designed especially for operating large newspaper presses was installed in the Journal office in 1899. They are now placing on the market a complete line of motors and controlling devices for newspaper and job presses, linotypes, stereotyping and electrotyping machinery. Besides supplying a large and constantly increasing local and domestic demand for their apparatus this company is exporting many of their machines, especially to Great Britain and Australia. The works are situated on the Belt Railroad, east of the city, and just south of the Pennsylvania tracks, and at present employ about one hundred workmen.
